Thurgood Marshall Jr.
Thurgood Marshall Jr., a partner in the law firm of Bingham McCutchen LLP in Washington, D.C., and a principal at Bingham Consulting Group, serves on the Ford Foundation Board of Trustees. He is a member of the board's Audit, Management and Governance, and Asset Building and Community Development committees.
Before joining the law firm, he was a member of the White House staff in the Clinton administration as assistant to the president and cabinet secretary, coordinating White House relations with executive branch departments, from 1997 to 2001. Before serving in the White House, Mr. Marshall was the director of legislative affairs and deputy counsel for Vice President Al Gore. Previously, he was counsel to three Senate committees: Judiciary; Commerce, Science and Transportation; and Government Affairs. Mr. Marshall began his legal career as a law clerk to U.S. District Judge Barrington D. Parker of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. He received a B.A. and a J.D. from the University of Virginia.
In December 2006, the U.S. Senate confirmed Mr. Marshall as a governor of the United States Postal Service. His board affiliations include Third Way, the National Women's Law Center and the Supreme Court Historical Society. He is also a director of the Corrections Corporation of America.
