Oil Spills and the Marine Environment
About
the Authors
Donald F.
Boesch is a marine biologist at the Virginia Institute of
Marine Science of the University of Virginia and a member of the
Department of Marine Science at both the University of Virginia and
the College of William and Mary. He was a Federal Water Pollution
Agency Predoctoral Fellow in water pollution research and a
Fulbright-Hays Postdoctoral Fellow in marine ecology at the
University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia. His research
interests include marine ecology, particularly benthic ecology, and
pollution ecology.
Carl H.
Hershner is a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Virginia in
marine biology. His research involves the study of chronic oil
pollution of salt marshes in the Chesapeake Bay.
Jerome H.
Milgram is a member of the Department of Ocean Engineering of
MIT and specializes in the hydrodynamic aspects of ocean
engineering, particularly those concerned with water waves. He is
the designer of the U.S. Coast Guard High-Seas Lightweight Oil
Pollution Containment Barrier and has had a major role in the
at-sea testing of the barrier. He has also been responsible for
measurements of the barrier's performance and the sea state in the
tests of the barrier and oil recovery system. He has written
extensively on the hydrodynamics of pollution control and the
aerodynamics of sails.
