Good Neighbor Grants (in the 42nd Street area of New York) Fiscal Year 1998

To help organizations and activities that add to the vitality of neighborhoods near its headquarters, the Foundation made 17 grants of $15,000 each through its Good Neighbor Committee.

  • American Place Theatre
    To develop a theater training program for college graduates.

  • American Red Cross in Greater New York
    For a computer-training program for children.

  • Bread and Roses Cultural Project For cultural activities for residents of west midtown.

  • Center for Children and Families For activities at this mental health clinic specializing in family issues.

  • Council of Senior Citizen Centers of New York City
    To expand computer-training services.

  • 52nd Street Project
    For theater and literacy programs for youth.

  • Fountain House
    To start a microcredit loan program for mentally handicapped adults.

  • God's Love We Deliver
    To provide meals for homebound people with AIDS.

  • Hartley House
    For social services in the Clinton community.

  • Hetrick-Martin Institute
    To establish a housing facility for homeless gay and lesbian youth.

  • Japan Society
    For performances of Japanese marionette theater.

  • New 42nd Street
    To enable students from public schools to attend theater performances.

  • Project Renewal
    For training programs for homeless mentally handicapped adults.

  • United Neighbors of East Midtown
    To fund senior citizens' services.

  • Urban Pathways
    For staff training in managed care for homeless adults.

  • Volunteer Consulting Group
    To strengthen the leadership capability of trustees serving on nonprofit boards.

  • Young Men's Christian Association of Greater New York
    For an employment skills training program at Norman Thomas High School.

Program Assistants

Eighteen recent graduates of law schools and master's degree programs have been selected for two-year assignments as program assistants at the Foundation.
