Summary Description
The Program Officer will be responsible for developing, monitoring and evaluating the Foundation’s West Africa programming in Sexuality and Reproductive Health. The portfolio’s overall goal is to foster a conducive social environment and engender policy actions that lead to improvements in the reproductive health of poor women and adolescents in West Africa, with a focus on Nigeria. The program covers two areas. The first seeks to foster informed advocacy for reproductive health by working to create a macro-policy and social environment that is conducive to improved reproductive health outcomes among women and youth. The second focuses on demonstration and wider adoption of alternative strategies and programs that interlink health education and economic empowerment initiatives for vulnerable groups of women and youth.
Working with the Representative in Lagos and other Ford Foundation staff, the Program Officer will develop grant making strategies; identify prospective grantees; solicit, review and respond to grant proposals; and prepare recommendations for Foundation funding. In addition to developing the sexuality and reproductive health agenda, the Program Officer is expected to contribute to the office’s overall strategic direction for the region. The Program Officer will also collaborate with colleagues in the Foundation’s other offices to advance a worldwide agenda around the Foundation’s goals in the sexuality and reproductive health fields.
