Kofi Appenteng Joins Ford Foundation Board of Trustees


NEW YORK, 20 September 2007 — The Ford Foundation announced today the election of Kofi Appenteng to its Board of Trustees.

Mr. Appenteng is a partner at the New York-based law firm of Thacher Proffitt & Wood LLP. He joined the Board at its September meeting, which concludes today. Ford Foundation trustees are elected by the full board and serve six-year terms.

“Kofi Appenteng is a distinguished leader who brings to the foundation a rich understanding of international development and law, decades of experience in corporate governance, and a deep appreciation for the mission and values that guide our work,” said Kathryn Fuller, Chair of the Ford Foundation Board of Trustees. “He joins a dynamic Board that is committed to building on the Ford Foundation’s seventy-year history of advancing human welfare and creating opportunity for people around the world.”

Mr. Appenteng is a member of the Corporate and Financial Institutions Practice Group at Thacher Proffitt. He advises U.S. and multinational firms on matters related to corporate governance, corporate finance, regulatory compliance and other matters.

Born in Ghana, Mr. Appenteng came to the United States in 1977. He serves on the boards of numerous organizations including the Africa-America Institute, Community Service Society of New York, the International Center for Transitional Justice, University of Cape Town Fund, Inc., and is a life member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
